The Hunter Golf Society had a glorious day on Thursday 27th May 2010 at Burford!

Burford is usually very well supported but this event, being near a Bank Holiday, reduced our normal numbers.  However, with a healthy turnout of 16 members and 1 guest a great day was enjoyed by everyone.  Well nearly everyone!  A member thinking laterally decided that he might lose his car keys so put them behind the petrol cap - unfortunately, the car locked itself as well as the petrol cap as he did it - the only solution was to phone his wife and ask her to bring the spare set of car keys.  The fact that he lives 40 miles away from Burford he said was not a problem as she loves him dearly (well that was his story but we did notice when he made the phone call he disappeared down to the bottom of the car park and followed that by a swift visit to the loo!).

The Captain did the business in the evening awarding pin prizes, 2nd and third places, etc and then announced the winner of the Spring Trophy, veteran/founder member Bill McNicholl with 40 points.  Bill has not won a Hunter trophy for several years which he believes is due to his advancing into 'middle' age.  This has bothered him for some time and he obviously decided to take the bull by the horns and we believe he went to his doctor a couple of months ago for some advice or pills (we are undecided which he got).  Since then, he has brought his handicap down from 20 to 16 and then still wins the trophy with an easy 40 points!  Bill can we have some of what you have been prescribed pleeease!

The morning pairs competition was won by Roger Gillam & Gary Latham who beat their playing partners Barry Stock & Andy Thomas into second place by 1 point with 22 points over the nine holes.  A warm welcome to Gary Latham who has now joined the Hunter.

Note: it appears that another veteran John Middleton keeps sneaking into the prizes even after getting cut - does he visit the same doctor (we know he plays a lot of golf with Billy Mac!)

The next meeting will be at Buckingham on 29th June - happy golfing!
