The Hunter Golf Society held CAPTAIN'S DAY on Tuesday 29th June 2010 at Buckingham

It was decided that each year from this year onwards the Society Captain of the day would choose his venue for Captain's Day and Buckingham, being Captain Tony Osborne's home club, is where 27 players turned up to enjoy the bucks fizz on the terrace - I hope that is not all they came for!

After some panic about the Vice Captain, Bob Perkins not showing up on time, players went out for the morning pairs competition.  Yours truly had two partners due to the Vice Captain's late arrival and his 'allotted' partner Roger Mawle was one of them and when he heard Big Bob had arrived and was doing extraordinary things on the first few holes playing with a different partner - he was none too impressed!  Big Bob had driven the par 4 1st lipped out for a 2 making 3 net 2 - 4 points, holed his 2nd shot on the par 4 2nd making net 1 - 5 points and chipped in for a 2 on the par 3 4th making 3 points!   Yours truly playing with Roger Mawle had 23 points which would usually be enough to be in the prizes well at least 2nd was 'edged out' to 4th place on count back with Bob Perkins and his 'new' partner Mick Faulkner, amassing 27 points winning the whole thing by miles!

The afternoon singles saw guest Shamus Donald shoot an easy 40 points(could have been more - I know I played with him) but the Hunter Captain's Day Trophy was won by member Dave Barnes with 38 points with Roger Mawle in second place and John Middleton in third place both on 37 points.  Shamus was unanimously welcomed into the Hunter as a member - I was surprised that no 'black balls' were thrown due to his impressive first time out score!  After a humble winners speech from Dave, members gathered around Dave to congratulate him on his tremendous win - or was to see if he had any 'guns' like bandits do!

Note: Interesting! - The Captain after making us all put our jackets on for dinner then proceeded to relax jackets (I didn't know Ossie was also the Captain of Buckingham Golf Club who has that privilege!).

The next meeting will be in at Aspley Guise on Wednesday 28th July - happy golfing!
